The Follower was a physical entity that wandered the public space in front of Emily Carr University during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. This public space was a main corridor of foot traffic during the Olympics and car traffic during the rest of the regular year on Granville Island.
The Follower was designed as a reflection on the fading history of Granville Island. The physical design of the moving entity echoed the physicality of old creosote soaked railroad ties; its slow, wandering, walking pace searching for a fading history.
The Follower was a self driving robot that bridged the modern day function of Granville Island as a public space and its industrial history.
